Coming 2017
Michaela Blautsauger might well be the most misunderstood member of the Blautsauger family. Born at a time when the law decreed daughters were the father's property, until they became their husband's chattel, she chafed against such societal restrictions. Willfully, she refused to accept any suitor her father deemed a suitable match. She decided she'd never marry and became determined to be independent and self-reliant.
Almost three hundred years later, her attitude hadn't changed. Still unmarried and despite her father's disapproval, she earned her medical decree. Working as a physician and scientist, for the last fifty years, she's been working on the perfect synthetic blood. A formula that will release Nosferatu vampires from their dependence on human donations.
It's almost finished. All she needs is to find the proper plant fructan. From it she'll extract the liposomes necessary for transporting all the necessary nutrients throughout the vampire circulatory system. She's even learned of the perfect plant.
Her only problem? The ch'ich pak', blood plant, only grows near a sacred cenote in the Yucatan jungle. Deep within the belly of enemy territory, and the Toltecs would love to get their hands on a Blautsauger.
Human Detective Seth Whitehead has his suspicions about the Blautsauger family. Especially the coldly aloof Dr. Michaela Blautsauger. Even as he finds himself drawn to her, he knows she is hiding secrets. Secrets that would help him apprehend the serial killer he's been hunting.
Following her to Mexico turns into a race against time, the Toltecs, and certain death for both of them.
